So, I had no idea that Amazon Prime had books that you could get for free with it (thank you Goodreads).
Lumberjanes is one of those graphic novel series that just about everyone has talked about at one point or another and with good reason. Now I understand just why it’s so popular!
FRIENDSHIP TO THE MAX!
At Miss Qiunzilla Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s camp for hard-core lady-types, things are not what they seem. Three-eyed foxes. Secret caves. Anagrams. Luckily, Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together… And they’re not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! The mystery keeps getting bigger, and it all begins here.
Collects Lumberjanes No. 1-4.
The artwork is AMAZING! Now I see why everyone’s been raving about Lumberjanes so much. Also, the stories themselves are so much fun. I love the creativity and how everything is connected.
There’s also a nice mix of POC and LGBTQ representation. The stories challenge gender roles, while showing it’s okay to like what you like no matter who you are. This is such a cute book, y’all.
One of my issues with graphic novels is there are a lot that focus on the artwork but not the storyline. I feel like Lumberjanes did a good job of balancing both. There was actual character growth and a real plot. I could totally see this as a TV show on Cartoon Network.
The Not so Good
I did have a little trouble identifying who was who at the beginning. I wish there had been something at the beginning with their names and images. It didn’t take away from my overall reading experience, though. Other than that, the characters themselves were really fun.
All in All
I had a lot of fun reading Lumberjanes. It’s a quick, beautiful read with some really nice lessons mixed in. I’d definitely recommend this to my graphic novel lovers and anyone looking for a quick read.
