I feel like I say this every week, but this past week was TOUGH. I haven’t posted in over a week and I think that’s just added to the drain. I miss writing these posts and being able to talk to y’all but I was so busy with school and work and some other stuff we’ll get into in a minute.
So, let’s catch up y’all.
A major part of why I wasn’t writing was because I had decided to run for campus governor. I’ve been involved in Student Government the entire time I’ve been at my university so it seemed like the right next move.
We had less than a month to campaign and I was running against two other people. I had a lot of support from friends and my campaign went pretty far in rallying up the black vote on campus, but I ended up being second place in votes. I got 1,006 and one of my opponents got 1,338. I’m sad I lost but at the end of the day, if it was in God’s will I would have won.
There was one week where I had two papers due, one after the other, and an exam. That following week (this past week) I had another paper due and an (easier) exam. School has not let up, y’all.
I got to perform a few times this month. Thrice at events at my school and once at an event Downtown. All four performances were really fun and just reinforced how much I love being a Spoken Word Artist.
I got to meet some people I really admire over the course of Black History Month. Dr. Yusef Salaam, of the Exonerated Five, spoke at my school and I was blessed with a moment to sit down and talk to him. It was amazing hearing his story in person and he’s so inspirin. It was even more amazing speaking to him one on one.
I also got to meet FreeQuency, one of my all-time favorite Spoken Word Artists, at an event hosted by my school’s Multicultural Programming. They invited black poets to speak and FreeQuency was one of the featured artists. “Seven Deadly American Sins” changed how I approached writing poetry y’all.
I didn’t play in the soccer match last Wednesday because I couldn’t find my cleats but our team did end up winning. We beat the other team 6-0. (Haitians really love soccer.)
Pageant practice has still been going on and the pageant will be on April 4th so wish me luck. My partner and I have been working pretty hard to learn this dance routine. We’re having a big photo shoot for it this Friday and I’m excited to have some new professional shots.
I’ve made some great new friends at school and I’ve also grown closer to my older ones. In this season of my life, I’ve learned to value the people in my life more and I’m so grateful for the fact that they’ve chosen to be a part of my life.
Like I said before, I haven’t posted in over a week. I completely missed my deadlines for Down the TBR Hole and Top 5 Tuesday. I haven’t even posted a Grown-ish Recap in two weeks (but I have been keeping up with episodes). It’s been a rough couple weeks but I plan to get back into this blogging life ASAP. Like I said before, I miss y’all.
