Let’s Catch Up (#14)

Comments 17 Standard

Hey y’all and happy Sunday! If you’re new here, well… you came in at a really nice time. Let’s Catch Up is basically my version of a weekly wrap-up. This is the time where I catch you up on what’s been happening in my life, blogging updates, and shouting out people to check out.

Life Update

This week has been pretty dull, in all honesty. I’ve been feeling really low levels of motivation and general interest. I’ve also been really low in energy. It could be a combination between the weather and the fact that I haven’t really had social interactions.

I’m a major extrovert so not seeing people in person has been extremely difficult and it hit me harder this week. In terms of the weather, I live in South Florida and it’s a mess. Some days it’s extremely sunny and other days (like yesterday) it’s raining buckets.

My flowers are in the process of blooming again since I pruned them last week. I think it’ll be really pretty once they bloom and I’m really just waiting on it now. Seeing the flowers usually helps lift my spirits so I’m looking forward to that this week.

Blogging Update

Even though my energy has been pretty low, I’ve been reading a lot. I ended up moving my reading goal up again, this time from 40 to 50 for the year. At my current rate, I’ll probably have to move it up again, but I’m waiting to see how school starting affects my reading.

I recently figured out the theme I want to go for with this blog. It’s been really fun getting that cartoony look in all of my latest banners. I’ve also been going through and updating old posts with new blog banners that match the theme I’m going for.

I’ve been posting on my Bookstagram a lot more regularly. I really like the new Instagram Reels. I never made a Tik Tok (I just don’t like downloading new apps) but it’s been fun to hop on the trends and show off some of my favorite books.

What Did I Miss?

This is the part where I tell you about all the wonderful things I posted this week. Make sure to check out anything you may have missed!

The Many Faces of Lincoln Loud Review ~ Rae's Reads and Reviews

I got an eARC of The Many Faces of Lincoln Loud through Netgalley and I loved it. I’m a pretty big fan of The Loud House and these comics were so cute.

Top 5 Tuesday ~ Rae's Reads and Reviews

Top 5 Tuesday is back with a new host and all new topics. This week’s topic was 5 books where things went right.

WWW Wednesday ~ Rae's Reads and Reviews

I’ve been reading a lot lately so I decided to post a WWW Wednesday to talk about some of my latest reads. If you really want to know about the books I’m reading and my thoughts, make sure to follow me on Twitter.

Words on Bathroom Walls Book Review ~ Rae's Reads and Reviews

Words on Bathroom Walls was such a great story and I’m glad I’ve finally gotten a chance to share my thoughts with you. If you need more reason to pick it up, definitely check out my full review.

Training School for Negro Girls Book Review ~ Rae's Reads and Reviews

Training School for Negro Girls was my final read for the readathon last month. I’ve been spacing out my reviews more lately and I’m really liking the Thursday and Friday rotation for posting these.

Stuck at Home Book Tag ~ Rae's Reads and Reviews

I was tagged to do the Stuck at Home Book Tag. I had a really fun time doing it and I’m so happy to have been tagged.

Book Bloggers to Check Out

Thanks to Lila’s July Wrap-Up, I learned how to make my blog more accessible from her link to Vicky’s blog post. The post was so informative and I really liked how Vicky broke things down.

I asked for some suggestions on Twitter of books with Disability Rep. Leah @ Leah’s Books linked to her amazing list of books with various Disability Rep in different genres. If you want some recommendations or would like to add to that thread, here’s the thread of Disability Rep in fiction. I’ve added so many of these books to my TBR and they all sound amazing.

Marie @ Drizzle & Hurricane Books posted a great piece on why she doesn’t believe in fake engagement. I related to a lot of what she said and I’m so happy she spoke up about it because it is an issue in the blogging community.

Matty @ Matty’s Book Avenue posted about the books and authors that made her into a book lover. It’s such a wholesome post and it reminds me of the post I did on the books that shaped my childhood. It’s nice to see how an early love of reading can really stick with you your whole life.

Booktubers to Check Out

I might have mentioned The Artisan Geek before but I really like this video she posted this week. As someone who can’t stand Amazon and what Jeff Bezos is doing to the world, this was just what I needed. I’ve started using StoryGraph because of this video and I agree, it is way better than Goodreads.

On Twitter I asked for advice about getting into children’s book narration and somebody responded with this video. It’s really informative and I enjoyed it. I’m trying to figure out how to use Learning Ally now.

Aaron at Booked and Busy just has so much positive energy in all her videos. I really like this video she made about tips on reading tomes.

That’s all from me, now it’s your turn to answer these questions!

How was your week?

What are you looking forward to this week?

How have you coped during quarantine/social distancing?

Let me know in the comments below, let’s chat!

  2. Thank you for the shoutout! I’m so glad your flowers are doing well, hehe! And huge SAME for TikTok/Reels. I never downloaded TT because tbh the company is kind of sus and I hate new apps, but I love having the video making ability on instagram haha. Your feed looks gorgeous!

    • I love your posts so it’s the least I can do☺️
Right! I heard so many bad things about the company behind TikTok so I honestly didn’t feel as bad when Instagram stole the idea 😭 the reels are so much fun to make and I don’t need to have a separate app to do it which just makes it even easier

Thank you so much! I’ve been working on getting a more consistent theme going ☺️

    • Thank you so much! I visited my cousins yesterday afternoon and that helped, I’m going to try leaving the house more this week (for groceries and maybe thrifting) and I think that will help also.

You’re so sweet! I think the new reels feature has been the added push I needed to start posting more and I’ve been experimenting with the way I edit my pictures 🙂

I really loved your post on engagement and I hope more people check it out because it definitely needs to be talked about. I hope you have a great week too 😀

      • OH I’m so happy to hear that! 🥰 Leaving the house a little bit is good, even just for a little walk here and there helps, as safely you can! I hope that you’ll feel better and better every day ❤
