Hey y’all! August is really coming to an end so soon and I don’t know how to feel about that. Summer ended up being super long and incredibly short at the same time. What is time?
That being said, September is nearly here and my bank account is quaking. There are so many amazing books that I simply need in my hands immediately. Several authors that I absolutely love are releasing new novels and there are others who I think may become new favorites.
Even though I need to read a lot for my English classes, my nights will probably be spent clinging to these novels until my eyes are too heavy to continue. So… that’s where I’m at right now.
All this to say, these are the books that I’m looking forward to in September.
Punching the Air by Yusef Salaam and Ibi Zoboi
We Are Not Free by Traci Chee
I won an ARC copy of We Are Not Free from a giveaway that Colored Pages was hosting on Twitter and I’m really looking forward to reading it once it comes in.
Charming as a Verb by Ben Phillippe
I really need this book in my hands, like really need it. Charming as a Verb is by a Haitian author and it follows a first-generation Haitian-American main character. Do you hear me screaming?
Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson
Tiffany D. Jackson had my mind blown with Monday’s Not Coming and I loved the antics of Let Me Hear a Rhyme. I’m so excited to get back into her writing with Grown. She really has a way with psychological thrillers, and I really want to read her first book Allegedly, at some point.
Never Look Back by Lilliam Rivera
I really enjoyed The Education of Margot Sanchez a couple years back, but I haven’t read any of Lilliam Rivera’s other works. This one sounds more up my ally than Dealing in Dreams but I do want to get to that at some point, too.
Early Departures by Justin A. Reynolds
After the way I can’t shut up about Opposite of Always, did you think this wouldn’t make the list? I love the way Justin A. Reynolds plays with these different elements in his storytelling and I can’t wait to get into this.
Smash It! by Francina Simone
I was actually sent an ARC of Smash It! from the publisher and I can’t wait to devour this. I’m hoping to start it this weekend, after getting through my library books.
Every Body Looking by Candice Iloh
I’m pretty sure I first saw this book on Bookstagram and it looked interesting, so I added it to my TBR. Lori also mentioned it in her anticipated releases post, which just made me want to read it even more.
Ties That Tether by Jane Igharo
This wasn’t originally on my list but I saw it on a Goodreads list and added it immediately. The cover is absolutely gorgeous and the synopsis sounds so interesting.
Dear Justyce by Nic Stone
Nic Stone is one of my all-time favorite authors. I love watching her and Angie Thomas do their IG lives. They are both such amazing people and I can’t wait to have another one of her works on my bookshelf. I’m planning on rereading Dear Martin beforehand though, since it is really short and I want to get a good grasp of where we left off.

That doesn’t change the price in any way, it just helps me out by giving me a small percentage if you end up purchasing a book through my link. I really love Bookshop and all they do for small-independent bookstores, which is why I decided to become an affiliate. You can also find all these books in one convenient list on my bookshop page.
