Hey y’all! You may have missed me last week because I was busy gushing about Dear Haiti, Love Alaine in support of libraries so if you haven’t checked that out yet then, um, please go read it. Now that you’re caught up, let’s get into it for this week.
Top 5 Tuesday was originally created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm. She has now passed the baton to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads. Meeghan is truly a gem and to lighten the load, she’s made this month alphabetical.
U is for Uncle Mark from Long Way Down
Is this a stretch? Maybe, but it works. Long Way Down is one of those stories that really sticks with you and Uncle Mark’s own story was so heartbreaking but one I’m sure that many people could relate to.
V is for Vinnie from Smoove City
Vinnie is basically the weird one of the group and I love him for it. He’s so strange and that plays into the story in a really fun way.
X is for Xiomara from The Poet X
I’ve been waiting for X just so I could talk about Xiomara. She’s such a dope character and I could relate to on a whole other level. She’s a poet, first-gen, and going through her own struggles with her family while trying to figure out her spiritual beliefs.
Y is for Yahaira from Clap When You Land
I was literally flipping through my books looking for a name that started with Y and I honestly couldn’t find a single one until I remembered this one. I know I used Elizabeth Acevedo like three seconds ago but I guess we’ll both just have to deal with the fact that Elizabeth Acevedo is an angel who also chooses the best names for her characters. And I’ll just continue being an Elizabeth Acevedo stan.
Z is for Zora from On Beauty
I’m currently reading On Beauty for my Major World Writers class and Zora is one of the characters. I don’t know too much about her yet but I like her so far.
