February Reading Wrap-Up

Comments 2 Standard

Hey y’all! February was quite a month and I somehow managed to get through books for both school and for fun. I’m honestly surprised I got through this many books. Anywho, let’s get into it.

Reading Stats

I read 12 books in February, totaling about 2,988 pages. For my pleasure reads, I read five Middle Grade (all audiobooks) and 2 manga (that I found in a Little Free Library). For classes, I read five books. Two were memoirs by former slaves for my Identity in African American Lit class. One was a short story collection for my Creative Writing class. Another was a novel for my Visualizing Race in Film and Literature class. And the last one was a reread of The Poet X for my YA Fiction class.

I will have an accompanying breakdown with the specific books on my bookstagram page later today. Most of my reading was done via audiobooks this month, all of which I got through my library using the CloudLibrary app. This definitely came in handy for the books I needed to read for my classes.

A lot of reflective pieces, most of which were for classes. The adventurous books were mainly the Middle Grade and they were such a breath of fresh air from my class material.

I decided to put the Pace and Page Number sections together here. A mix of paces and most of the books I read were on the shorter side.

I got in some more nonfiction thanks to those memoirs.

Quite a range of genres this month. Most of the fantasy was from the Middle Grade and Manga books. There’s also a couple here that had fantasy elements but I wouldn’t personally classify as full-on fantasies.

This month was definitely better in terms of ratings. I didn’t read anything that had me wondering how it got through the many stages of publishing. It was all pretty good and several were just excellent.

What’s Poppin?

I haven’t been putting out much content here for the past two weeks since school has gotten busier. But, the three lists I put out this month did end up doing pretty well so here they are:

I’m happy these lists are doing so well. They take quite a bit of time to put together but seeing how much people seem to enjoy them definitely helps keep me motivated to make them.

I put together this list of 18 Fantasy Books by Black Authors, separated by age category so there’s Middle Grade, Young Adult, and Adult Fantasy. I’m just starting to get into fantasy was this was a fun one to search around for.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I decided to share these 20 Romances with BIPOC Leads. It’s a mix of Young Adult and Adult romance, separated by category.

Last, but certainly not least, I scoured the internet to find these 32 Books by BIPOC that are set for release in March. A bunch of these were books I hadn’t even heard of before so I’m happy I was able to help spread the word about them. It’s definitely a diverse month ahead.

How was your February? Did you do anything for Valentine’s Day? Do you have any reading plans for March? Let me know in the comments below, let’s chat!
