On Friday, April 5th, I got the opportunity to meet Elaine Welteroth and Brittany Packnett, Abby Wambach, and Glennon Doyle at the Be the Change event hosted at Florida Atlantic University. Elaine’s book More Than Enough will be out June 11, 2019 and it can be pre-ordered here. I do not have any affiliate links and this is not a sponsored post.
The first time I saw Elaine Welteroth was in my living room. I was watching an episode of Blackish where she was playing Zoey’s boss. This was long before my love affair with Grownish began. One of the things that struck out most to me was her hair. Watching a black woman in a position of power with her hair in its natural state, that meant a lot to my teenage self. Her appearance in Grownish brought about that same feeling. After hearing about her role in co-writing that episode, I knew I had to meet her for myself.
I think my fellow Grownish fans can all agree that Wednesdays are not the same. The whole week feels off. You may be going through some serious Grownish withdrawals, but never fear, here are five shows to binge until Grownish Season 2 comes back this summer.
If you started watching Grownish without ever getting into Blackish, do yourself a favor and check it out.
Let’s be honest, without Blackish, there would be no Grownish. It’s the show where we were introduced to Zoey Johnson, watched her grow into her own person, and eventually leave the nest. It’s also a great way to learn more about her brother, Junior, before his appearance on the show.
I plan on posting my actual Recap + Discussion some time tomorrow. I just wanted to talk about tonight’s episode ASAP. Until then, you can check out my twitter feed since I was live-tweeting the whole episode. This post is gonna be filled with spoilers, so be warned.
This episode was packed with all the punches. Zoey was going through a whole lot and so was her squad. I’m so happy she was honest about the cheating situation, even if she did end up getting academic probation. It could’ve been a whole lot worse.
Episode nine starts with Zoey, Ana, and Nomi being a cute little squad. They head over to the Cal U Arts Fest to see Luca’s exhibit. One of Luca’s pieces hits a nerve for Zoey. It’s legit a painting of Luca’s ex, and it is super detailed. Aaron mentions that the body is “very well composed.”
