Hey y’all! At the beginning of the year, I challenged myself to buy at least one book from an independent bookstore each month. My local bookstore closed permanently very recently so I’ve switched over to getting them from Cultured Books (a Black-owned bookstore) for these past few months.
However, this month’s purchase is from somewhere else entirely and we’ll get into that a little later. My August pick is probably going to come as a surprise, especially if you aren’t following me on Twitter.
Hey y’all, I’m starting to see a pattern with these months. It’s like, one month I get one book and the next month I get multiple. Kind of weird, right?
For those who may not know yet, I challenged myself at the beginning on the year to buy at least one book a month from my local bookstore. That way I’d support an Indie bookstore and also support authors. I tend to get the vast majority of my reads from the library but it is nice to gift myself every month with a beautiful book… or two.
My local bookstore has closed down, which makes me so sad, but now I’m supporting a Black-owned independent bookstore. If you’d like to find a Black-owned bookstore near you, click here for the directory. I got these books fromCultured Books through their online shop.
The months of June and July were quite prosperous for my shelves. I’ve gotten so many new and beautiful additions. I bought two books from my local bookstore, won two books from the Bibliophagist and Page to Page giveaway, and I was gifted a whole bunch of books from someone over at Penguin Random House.
I’ve been taking part in a summer writing program hosted by one of my teachers from high school for the past few weeks. The funny thing is, I never actually had him as a teacher when I was in high school. He was the sponsor for this movie making club I was in with a few other friends and we’ve always kept up with one another ever since.
He’s been telling me about this writing club for a couple years now, but this was the summer I finally had both free time and a car, so I decided to make good on my promise and come to a meeting. Then that one meeting turned into three.
I’ve honestly been enjoying the Summer Writing Club, but now I’ve had to cut my time there short because of my new job. Thankfully, the last meeting I went to was the best of them all.
